Little Lives on a Seoul Street
Deep in an unremarkable alley in Seoul's Gangnam district, several abandoned stray cats and dogs had long been scavenging for food beside the trash bins. Thin and with matted, dirty fur, they scattered whenever a passerby approached, their eyes filled with fear and distrust.
Volunteers from the Foundation's Korea branch came upon them by chance after a community cleanup and decided to help. Aware of how specialized stray rescue can be, they contacted a seasoned local animal protection organization, and the two sides quickly joined forces.
They staked out the alley entrance for several days, feeding the animals at fixed points and using gentle voices to ease their wariness. Once the timing was right, they used professional traps to bring the animals safely to a temporary shelter.
There, every animal received a full health check, vaccinations, neutering, and treatment for injuries or illness. Volunteers then photographed each animal, wrote sincere adoption descriptions, and posted them on major adoption platforms.
Within one month, all eight stray animals had found warm new homes. The volunteers also recorded and shared the rescue online, awakening more residents to reflect on the plight of strays around them and encouraging more young people to adopt rather than buy.
